Dancing into the New Year
How will you dance into the new year?
Will you dance a graceful waltz as you glide into 2022 with confidence and ease?
Will you dance a slow, subtle rumba as you move into 2022 with focused awareness?
Will you march into 2022 with the fire and passion of a paso doble?
Will you bounce into 2022 with the lighthearted joy of a samba?
However you choose to dance into 2022, the new year is a time to reconnect with your divine partner and begin to co-create your “dance with the Divine” for this next year.
I always look forward to the ending of a year and the beginning of a new year. I see it as:
An opportunity to give thanks for the blessings of the past year
A time to release what no longer serves me
A time to focus on my intentions for the new year
When I do this, I feel like I’m creating a myriad of possibilities for the present and future.
If you’d like to feel more free, confident, and in tune with your inner spirit in your dance with the Divine this year, I invite you to try this three-step process:
Preparation: Find a quiet place where you can be undisturbed for a period of time. You may want to play some soothing background music. Take a few deep breaths and just allow yourself to be still and relax into the present moment.
Step One--Gratitude: As you think about the past year, begin to focus on the things for which you are most grateful. Let the feeling of gratitude well up inside you. Then, write down all the blessings in your life in the past year—your accomplishments, your successes, your joys, even your challenges. (Remember that sometimes what seems to be a challenge can be a blessing in disguise, bringing you greater awareness, insight, or a closer connection with Spirit.) When you feel complete with this list for now (you can always add to the list later), go on to step two.
Step Two—Release: Ask yourself: “What in my life am I willing to let go of? What keeps me from experiencing peace, joy, or love in my life? What relationships, activities, or possessions are no longer right for me? What old habits and beliefs no longer serve me?”
As you think about what you want to release, you may find it helpful to close your eyes and imagine yourself in a peaceful place. Imagine a bright light appearing before you and inviting you to surrender what you no longer want or need to this light, to be dissolved in the light of love.
You may also want to write on paper what you would like to release and then burn the paper or tear it into pieces, seeing yourself releasing and letting go of the past so that you are ready to move into a new year of possibilities.
Step Three—Co-creating 2022: Having now symbolically let go of the past, take a few deep breaths and feel yourself connecting with your inner spirit—the Divine in you. You may want to imagine yourself walking, with your divine partner by your side, through a gateway to the new year. On the other side of the gateway are infinite possibilities for you. Feel your divine partner guiding you as you ask: “What do I want to accomplish in 2022? What qualities do I want to express? What do I want to focus on this year?”
Then, based on your answers to these questions, write your intentions for the year. (An intention is a heart-centered desire, guided by Spirit.) An example might be “to be a peaceful presence,” “to publish my soulful book this year,” “to experience more joy in my life.” You may find it helpful to divide your intentions into categories, such as relationship intentions, work intentions, leisure intentions, health intentions, etc. Intentions have a wonderful way of drawing to us what we need to bring our desires into manifestation. In next month’s blog, we’ll learn to move, one step at a time, from fear to faith as we move forward with our intentions.
When you feel complete with this step for now, sit quietly for a few minutes, giving thanks in advance for the fulfillment of these intentions.
As you dance your way through this year, know that whatever dance you choose, you’re always being guided by your divine partner. Enjoy the dance!
